Not every student is interested or able to pursue a traditional four-year college path.
Through STL.works, a workforce development initiative of Regional Business Council (RBC), educators and industry professionals are paired up to offer alternative career options, ensuring that all students, regardless of their circumstances, have a chance to succeed.
To help bridge that gap between education and meaningful career opportunities and connect youth with the regional workforce ecosystem, STL.works recently partnered with Cahokia High School to launch a work-based initiative for seniors. Focused on leveraging companies in the Cahokia and Sauget area, the program introduces students to real-world experiences through site visits, career talks, and direct engagement with industry professionals.
One of these companies involved in the partnership is Veolia. The company, which specializes in environmental services — particularly focusing on water, waste, and energy management — provides solutions for communities and industries to manage and protect resources.
As part of the program, current Cahokia juniors and seniors will gain exclusive access to on-the-spot interviews, giving them a direct line to employment right out of high school. The collaboration underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in preparing young talent for the workforce and strengthening the future of the local economy.
